I saw Faith today.
She was weaving a web
Amidst the dancers of life
Wearing a golden gossamer dress
And dancing to a sweet tune that
Only she sensed.
I saw Faith today.
She was leaping across the stage
As the audience
Absorbed her every move.
Her hips undulated like the waves of water that
Caress you when you plunge into the ocean.
I saw Faith.
Back in 2008, I wrote this poem at a time when my faith had wavered and I struggled to deal with a boatload of stress.
You know the kind that makes you feel like you are on a sinking ship. And you wonder if anyone is going to plug the boat or if you should jump off the ship and swim with the sharks.
Faith is when you get up each day and trust that the day will work out, even though some of the tasks ahead make you want to climb into a lifeboat and drift away to a deserted island.
Faith is knowing that the world will not always look so bleak, even though you are shivering in a torrential downpour that chills you to your core.
Faith is knowing that there is a brilliant, new world unfolding before your feet as you travel across the water, dancing to a tune you don’t recognize as you adjust your sails.
So when you feel stuck, unsure of where to move next that is when it’s time to have faith.
This means taking one step at a time, even if you are climbing out of the boat and you have no idea where you are traveling next. Even if you feel like sharks are circling around you.
Have faith. See faith. Be faith.
What does faith mean to you?
