Let’s talk about white privilege, the uncomfortable topic for many whites.
I cannot tell you how many white people have told me there is no such thing. (Too many!)
Heck, you can use the law of attraction logic and say if I don’t see it or experience it, then it doesn’t exist.
That’s called denial.
Let’s get real.
White privilege is alive and kicking.
It’s how we formed the US constitution, which in turn created our government.
It’s why we kicked natives off their land and told them this is our home.
It’s why Japanese Americans were forced into internment camps during World War II.
It’s why we are struggling to give equality to everyone today.
We can pretend white privilege does not exist, but I think you can agree our world needs to change, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this post.
White privilege is systemic and built into our culture. #PayAttention
How can you become more aware of white privilege?
- Have uncomfortable conversations.
- Learn about history from different ethnic backgrounds.
- Think critically.
- Hold a vision for how you want the world to be.
- Decide how you want to tackle the problem instead of pretending it doesn’t exist.
Our children’s children will thank us.
