Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
~ Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel in their song, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)
Now you’re probably going to think this is crazy. Or maybe not. But one of the big secrets to tapping into your intuition is to…
DO NOTHING.
Yes, that’s right. You heard me. Do nothing!
Sit in a quiet spot with no television blaring, no cell phone on or even near you, no computer blinking in the background, no one talking in the room, and no music playing.
Nada. Zip. Zilch.
You are not walking around your quiet location. You are not moving a muscle. Your goal is to do nothing. But there is one catch. Yes, there always has to be that one string attached. The catch is that you cannot fall asleep.
Okay. Go and do that for 1 hour, then come back, and read the rest of this article. Good luck and may the forces of solitude be with you!
Rest Time
Couldn’t do it?
Betcha you’re back without managing this, unless you fell asleep.
Why is that? Why is it so difficult to slow down and do nothing?
Have you ever stopped and thought about that?
Go ahead. Stop and ponder.
What keeps you from slowing down? Are you too electronically involved? Are you spending lots of time on blogs, texting, emailing, talking, or the like? How much TV do you watch? How often are you on the computer? What are you doing during the rest of your day?
When was the last time you sat around and literally did nothing?
If you want to really develop your intuition, you need to slow down and find those moments of nothingness. The more the better. Thing is… it can be uncomfortable at first.
All of a sudden you notice thoughts running through your mind and your body experiences emotions. It’s not easy doing nothing. Why do you think so many people use TV, computers, and phones? Because when you sit down and really listen to your body, you hear all sorts of rumblings going on in your mind, and at times it’s downright unpleasant, never mind scary.
I promise you though that if you practice sitting and doing nothing with no one around in a quiet place (even for 10 minutes), your mind and your body will calm down (eventually). And you will feel more connected with the world.
Isn’t that funny?
Here we are in such a technologically advanced world with all sorts of networks and we are still searching for a deeper connection.
In essence, we crave physical contact, a good laugh, and being loved, even with our flaws.
So next time you are thinking about what to do, decide to do nothing, even if only for a few minutes. Watch what happens.
It’s okay if your brain is moving a mile a minute and you can’t concentrate or relax. That’s great that you realized this.
Don’t give up! Just sit there and do nothing.
As a thought pops up, don’t hold onto it. Just let the thought float by and say, “Oh, that’s just a thought.” Then sit still and notice your breathing.
Look at your surroundings. Where are you? Sit and listen. You’ll be surprised what you notice.
Good luck and remember: unplug from the world and do nothing!
