I am not doing enough!
That’s what I heard myself say today after a full day of work, cooking dinner, and then doing my taxes.
Yup.
You’ve probably had that conversation with yourself after a busy day (or a crazy week).
- Not exercising enough.
- Not hanging out with friends enough.
- Not having enough fun.
- Not getting all my work done.
We live in a culture that glorifies BUSYNESS and thinks that slowing down is something you just do for vacations or maybe some weekends.
I’ve been a glutton for punishment and insisted on pushing myself because that’s what the strong do.
I’ve been a workhorse, trying to cram more into my day for weeks, months, and years.
It just leads to burn out.
TOASTED. Been there. And it’s not a crunchy, buttery, goo-fest.
So I continue to remind myself to slow down. Even if I didn’t get everything done that I hoped. My life will still be there tomorrow, including my TO DO list.
I even go so far as to take things off my crusty plate.
- Do I really need to run that errand?
- Does that activity really call to my soul or am I just feeling obligated to go?
- Did I insert enough downtime today?
What about you? How has that conversation gone with yourself?
