I don’t know about you, but the world seems shaken up lately, especially with all the mud-slinging and acts of hatred.
It feels like we are in the middle of a paradigm shift. An awakening.
And quite frankly, change is uncomfortable. It stretches our assumptions and boundaries.
Look at the birth of the United States. It wasn’t a tea party!
The US was born out of a desire for freedom and self-government. It was a grand experiment to see if the ideals of the time could be played out on a larger level even though there were a lot of limitations.
Women and people of color have long felt the bonds of oppression, even though the Declaration of Independence heralded a vision of equality.
Our country struggles as we look at how we unjustly treat different groups. Women. Blacks. Native Americans. Latinos. Disabled. LGBT. Muslims. And many more.
And here we stand now in the middle of another paradigm shift.
There are tears and heartache. Whether it is on a global, national, or personal level.
Yet there is hope and resilience at its core even if it takes a lifetime.
Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
~ Harriet Tubman
Today ask yourself:
- What do I stand for?
- What can I do in order to create a better tomorrow?
Then go do it. Even it is just treating someone with respect and holding that vision of equality.
