A few weeks back I was driving in Vermont on vacation and the GPS system in my blue hatchback brought me to a metal gate that stopped me on the road.
It felt like an annoying obstacle. How do I find my way out of the maze of Bennington College (where I have never been before) and get to the other side of the gate when my GPS wasn’t giving the right info?
That’s when I decided to use the art of appreciation.
So I swung the car door open and stepped out into the warm, summer sun to look around campus. It was gorgeous with an incredible mountain view. I walked around a bit, took a bunch of photos, and admired the beauty of such a peaceful spot.
This gave me time to change my mood and reconsider my options.
So instead of being hung up on disappointment or doubt or some other feeling that was going to trip me up, my state of gratitude made it easier to find my way out and to my destination, which I eventually found (after more twists and turns).
Now don’t get me wrong. There are times when you need to rant and rave and let off some steam. That totally has it’s place.
But this wasn’t one of them.
Are you feeling lost? Stuck in a spot that seems to be going nowhere?
Maybe it’s time you turned up the dial on appreciating what is in your life right now. (This, by the way, never hurts to do regardless of what is happening.)
What about you? How do you handle getting lost?
Here’s to finding your way,

Thank you for this Rachel!! Now to only kick fear out of the way….

Kicking fear of the way is not always possible. Sometimes I make friends with it instead and just say you can hang out with me but I’m going to do this anyhow. 😉 There is always more than one way to approach things.
